ABOUT THE ARTIST

Laurits Kunø

Let me introduce you to my world.

My name is Laurits Kunø Sørensen. I’m 22, and I make what some people would call art—but to me, it’s just how I express myself. I’ve always been a creative person. As a kid, I’d pick up random trash from the street and turn it into little figures, just to see what I could make out of nothing. Later on, that turned into bigger ideas, like starting my own clothing brand. Painting just came naturally after that—it felt like the next step.

A lot of people would probably label my work as pop art, but I don’t think too much about categories. To me, it reflects the kind of energy we’re moving into right now—less about being perfect, more about being real. My work is based on experiences, thoughts, moods, or sometimes just things I think look cool. I don’t overthink it too much, and I don’t think everything has to be super deep or serious.

Honestly, sometimes you just need to give the world a bit of a middle finger. There are so many expectations about how things should be done, how you should act, or what’s “right.” I don’t really buy into that. That attitude shows up in my paintings too. They’re not about being perfect—they’re about feeling something. Whether people connect with them, question them, or just like how they look, that’s enough for me.

I’ve only been doing this for a short time, but things have moved pretty fast. I’ve sold several pieces for thousands of kroner and had some of my work exhibited, which has been crazy to experience. But more than anything, it just shows me that people connect with something real.

At the end of the day, I just want to remind people that not everything has to be perfect or fit into a box. Do your thing, like what you like, and don’t be afraid to push back against anything that tries to hold you back.
